Processional Banner

This stands beside the altar of the Jesus Chapel.

A fine example of design and needlework in golden and coloured thread. The banner was designed and made by the Southend Municipal School of Art for the Church Congress held in the Borough of Southend in 1920.

Carried at the head of the procession to St. Mary's it had a wooden canopy above and four streamers to steady it along the way.
The subject chosen for the banner was St. Cedd, the second Bishop of the East Saxons for it was at that time the Saxon Chapel of St. Peter-on-the-Wall at Bradwell in Essex was being restored.
