Chancel Roof![]() In accordance with a faculty granted in 1870 a comprehensive restoration scheme was undertaken. The roof over the Chancel, South Chapel, Nave and Aisle was removed and replaced with the magnificent oak roof seen today. The Chancel roof was decorated in 1965. The picture shows only part of the Chancel roof, but there are four carved figures of angels forming the finials of the hammer beams on each side of the roof, all with their hands clasped in the attitude of prayer and facing the altar. Between the hammer beams and attached to the wall plates are three larger angels on each side of the roof. Each of the angels is bearing a shield on which is carved the implements associated with the Cross and the Passion of Christ. Between the beams can be seen repeated monograms of the name 'Mary'.
